Playschool Atherton is located in beautiful Holbrook-Palmer Park in Atherton, California and is a fun, warm, educational preschool and childcare option for families in Atherton, Menlo Park, Redwood City, Palo Alto and surrounding areas. Our 22-acre setting is beautiful, safe, tranquil and convenient. The open green space lends itself well to nature walks and picnics, with an extra community playground at our doorstep.
Playschool is a family-friendly environment! Parents are welcome in the classroom. In addition, we host several events throughout the year where the entire family is invited!

Ms. Ferneyn is Playschool’s Music Together teacher. She visits each class on Wednesday mornings for a joyful time with the children that includes singing, finger plays, American Sign Language, instrument time and dancing!
Singing is also part of the regular routine at Playschool, whether to encourage clean up, to welcome the day or to entertain while waiting for the next activity. Special songs are frequently used to enhance the seasonal and monthly themes.
Ms. Ferneyn regularly visits our older classes for cooking and gardening with the children. You can find them whipping up pancakes, muffins, smoothies and more. And the best part? They get to eat what they cook! It is fun and teaches critical developmental skills. Ms. Ferneyn also teaches the children gardening basics, from planting flowers and vegetables to understanding nutrition and where our food comes from.
The communication program at Playschool is administered through specific units and woven into daily lessons. We use role plays, skits, songs and other methods to teach children how to manage group play situations, take turns, share, and make eye contact. We learn the importance of body language and tone of voice. Our communication program teaches strong social skills and nurtures emotional intelligence, both of which are shown to be indicators of a child’s future academic success.
Our favorite reader, Atherton Librarian Ms. Sharon, comes to read to each classroom every other Thursday. The children and staff all love her! She brings her bag of books and entertains us all. Additionally, Scholastic book ordering is available through Playschool. With every purchase you make, Playschool earns books for our library. Lastly, Book Tree's curated lending program is available for a fee. Each month Book Tree delivers a tote of curated books for your child.
